Who's Raising Our Kids? |
This weekend I attended a
three day conference entitled “In The
Beginning, God” The facts of creation. The purpose of this conference was
to equip Christians, help us to become effective witness for Jesus and build up
our foundational knowledge of the creation message as well as engaging us in
the most relevant and significant creation centered topics in our world today:
- The age of the earth
- Fossils
- The Ice Age
- Intelligent Design
- Dinosaurs
- The Flood… and many more!
At this conference, we were
shown many videos and documentaries from evolutionist scientist dismissing the
evidence of God. In many of these videos, you can vividly see that they were
manipulating the truth, most of the claims they made were speculations with none
of the facts presented supported their observations and experiments. Some of
the evolutionists even used historical science to prove their points, which
made me question their motives. I believe historical science depicted creation
not evolution; take a look at the book of Genesis in the bible.
During my drive home after
the conference, I started to do some soul searching; I started asking questions
about our culture today. I recently spent part of my summer serving at an
orphanage in Africa. During my trip there, we stopped in couple of European
countries; I noticed a trend that is very consistent with the trend in the
United States. These countries were very wealthy economically, but spiritually
starving. In our country today we have about 6,000 theaters; we have MTV, BET,
VH1, some film makers and the media depicting, steering and shaping our culture.
They tell us how to eat, what to wear, what we should look like, what beauty
is, and where to live…. Every 10 years or every time we find a new fossil we
decide to change our science books. We use rocks to tell us the age of fossil
and we turn around and use fossils to tell us the age of rocks. Really! We teach kids to believe
whatever scientist tells them without questioning thing. We stop thinking. Let us
take a look at the composition of our society today.
What
is the culture in our country today?
- Divorce rate 1 in 2
- Single parent families increase 350%
- Parents at work 45-50 hours per week
- Juvenile violent Crime up 22% since 1990 and 75.8 incidents per 100,000
- Kids spend 900 hours of school per year, 1064 hours of television per year and 18 hour of gamming per week
There are over 400,000
churches in the United States but 50-88% of the youth who grew up in the church
are leaving the churches as soon as they graduate high schools or enter college
and universities. Pornography is a billion dollars industry, Depression is at
its highest peak in the United States, and we have more people in prison than
any other countries in the world. With these scary statistic I have been asking
myself; who is going to raise our kids?
In such an unsettled
environment, how can we feasibly think that we can carry on to raising our kids
without being intentional? If we the parents don’t construct better homes and
healthier families, we will need to build additional prisons because substitute
parenting will foster gangs. Jails and courts will become more overcrowded. And
our emotionally famished kids will linger to turn into irate and desensitized
adults, plowing through life for love, respect, and things.
